EACH evening for the past few weeks, walking home around six o'clock, I was privileged to enjoy the sight and sound of several hundred pied wagtails settling down to roost in trees outside the British Computer Society in Sanford Street.
Sadly, it seems that this spectacle of nature in the midst of the concrete jungle of Swindon town centre is to be experienced no more. Over the weekend before last, the trees were radically pruned, leaving only large exposed branches that offer no shelter, most too thick to be used as perches by small birds. Shame on whoever was responsible for this vandalism!
