FULL marks to the Evening Advertiser for its front page spread and supporting article "Is anywhere safe?"
This referred to the threat that green fields on all sides of Swindon whether south, west, east or north are now under, with huge pressure to go under concrete.
At the excellently conducted meeting "Swindon Whose Future?" held at Steam on March 16, Professor Boddy clearly spelt out, from research done by the ESRC, the full implications of government, regional and local council policy.
It seems that their agenda is growth at any cost regardless of the wishes of the people of Swindon and adjoining areas of Wiltshire.
This Soviet style of top-down planning and decision making makes a mockery of our democracy; virtually ignoring public opinion.
There are signs however that the people of Swindon are becoming aware of this steamrolling policy with the proposed developments of the Front Garden and around Coate Water.
It is clear that the only agenda is property developers driven purely by profit.
The public, however, reasoned and articulate are virtually ignored.
Swindon awake!
