PETER Eastoe has given Sam Parkin his blessing to smash a 30-year-old scoring record as manager Andy King reveals he has had two inquiries for the striker.

With transfer deadline day just 24 hours away the manager is not surprised the telephone has started ringing, not that he's terribly impressed with the offers at the other end of the line.

King has received one 'authentic' offer while an appeal to take Parkin on loan has been labelled 'absolutely ridiculous'.

The manager is remaining tight-lipped about the identities of the two clubs involved.

Town's leading scorer is seven goals short of beating Eastoe's 26 goal tally for the 1974-75 campaign and his manager seems keen to have him around long enough to crack it.

And Eastoe is of the same opinion.

The 51-year-old, now a van driver in the Midlands, said: "Obviously I'll be a bit upset if the record goes but records are there to be broken and I hope he does break it.

"I didn't realise my 26-goal record still stood and I'll be watching Swindon's results with far more interest.

"I wish Sam the best of luck and Swindon the best of luck as they go for the play-offs."

King doesn't see his squad looking any different once the lid shuts on transfer deadline day tomorrow.

The Town boss said: "The only reason I know it's deadline day is because people are phoning up about my players, Parkin in particular. Some authentic, some absolutely ridiculous.

"I haven't spoken to the directors and it's not for me to divulge anything."

Parkin has been linked with numerous clubs over the last three years but only Hull City have put their money where their mouth is, putting in a £250,000 offer during the summer, a bid which was flatly rejected.

King's only surprise is that his phone hasn't been busier. He has yet to speak to his board about the situation although the player does have a clause in his contract which allows him to speak to a club if a specific six-figure sum is offered.

However, while there is no question of 'not for sale at any price' director Bob Holt has stressed there is no pressure to sell Town's star striker.

He said: "If someone comes in with silly money then you have to look at it but we want to keep our squad together."

As for players coming into the County Ground on deadline day, it looks extremely unlikely.

King said: "There'll be no movement from me. I can't go into the market. I've not even thought about it."

FORMER Town youngster Chris Zebrowski helped sink his old club as Plymouth enjoyed a 2-0 win over Alan Reeves' young reserve side last night.

David Worrell added a second and to make matters worse the visitors had Leigh Henry red-carded for a reckless challenge on Keith Lasley.

Reeves said: "Plymouth scored with a 30-yard strike just before half-time and got a second although it could have been different had young Lance Lewis not seen his shot come back off the post earlier on."

BLACKPOOL did Town's slim play-off hopes a favour last night by beating Brentford 2-1.

Keith Southern scored both goals for the Seasiders while the Bees had former Town loan man Deon Burton sent off.
