WILTSHIRE'S new High Sheriff David Margesson will officially accept the post next month.

Mr Margesson takes over from Lieut-Col James Arkell and will be at the ceremony at Swindon Magistrates Court on April 1.

The 68-year-old joined the family farming partnership in 1958 a mixed arable and dairy unit of 1600 acres on the Marlborough Downs. Mr Margesson was appointed a magistrate in 1972. In 2002 he was awarded the MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Mr Margesson has three children and seven grandchildren and lives with his wife, Ruth, near Swindon.

The Lord Lieutenant and the High Sheriff are The Queen's representatives in the county.
