RE: EA March 17, Museum shuts on Sundays, Jemima Milton says: "it's a way of keeping the council tax rise to a minimum."
And EA March 18, Matching Brunel's legacy, Jemima Milton says "Swindon could become a confident town, culturally rich . . . known for its culture."
In our present society, Sunday is probably the only day when a family is able to visit places which could possibly enhance their knowledge and provide some culture.
Swindon Council's answer to this is to close the Bath Road museum on Sundays, thus saving approximately £40 in the process.
If a cost saving needed to be achieved, would it not have been better to close the museum on say a Monday or Tuesday when children would be at school and parents at work, thus not penalising the family unit?
Of course Bath Road museum is the poor relation when it comes to decisions made by the council so it should come as no surprise.
To say that the closure will be reviewed is a nonsense on what will they base a decision?
Perhaps the real reason is that, because this and previous administrations have promised new and better facilities for culture and the arts which have not come to fruition, and do not look as though they ever will, a full closure of the museum will be their next course of action thus confirming Swindon as a culturally rich town!
