J UTTING (Adver, Letters April 1) seeks to link me with the discredited former regimes of the Soviet Union, Poland and Hungary.

I was never a supporter of these so-called Communist governments, because they were not democratic.

But when Mr Utting speaks of democracy I would remind him that although we elect 600 or so MPs we have no power to elect the top businessmen and bankers who control our economy.

Private companies can relocate British jobs abroad at will to benefit from lower wages, without the Government having any say.

I think we need more democracy by holding the rich fat cats to account in the interests of the majority of the population.
