SWINDON residents have until the end of this week to nominate a member of Swindon Social Services for awards which recognise work which goes beyond the call of duty.

Nominations for the first Quality Service Awards, which can be made by the public or council staff, have to be in by Friday.

The presentation will be held at the De Vere Hotel, West Swindon, on Friday, June 24.

Coun Ian Dobie, lead member for social services, said: "We're really pleased with the response so far, but we're keen to make sure that we get as many nominations from the public as possible.

"There is some truly excellent work being done by social services staff which often goes unrecognised by the wider world, and we want to change that."

Anyone who works within the department is eligible for nomination.

This includes care managers, occupational therapists, care workers and administrators.

There are ten awards in total, all of which attract a cash prize, which will be re-invested into the team the winner works for.

Anyone wishing to nominate a member of staff can phone the customer relations team on 01793 466824 or visit the site www.swindon.gov.uk.
