World Heritage Site - Avebury stone circleA REPORT by the Audit Commission says that cultural services provided by Wiltshire County Council are good and likely to get better.

The Audit Commission assessed a variety of services including libraries and archives, provision for the arts and arts development, tourism, parks and open spaces, heritage, museums and galleries and sports development.

The commission's inspection team gave the service a rating of two stars out of a possible three, and said there were prospects for improvement.

Inspectors found that cultural services provided by the council, such as libraries and heritage, are of a high quality and meet users' needs, with above average levels of satisfaction.

Pauline Palmer, the county council's assistant director of libraries and heritage said: "This has been a positive inspection and I am very pleased that the Audit Commission has recognised the quality of the services provided in Wiltshire.

"There is always more to do and we will build on this assessment by creating an action plan to deliver more for the people of Wiltshire."

Recommendations for improvement include making sure all services are available electronically and improving understanding of who uses them.
