My wife and I would like to thank the half dozen or so middle-aged yobs who so carefully drove past us as we walked down the 30-odd metres of Potterne Road between the Hillworth Park lane and the Wick Lane roundabout on Saturday lunchtime.

Without exception they were oblivious of our presence on the footpath and of the fact that they were drenching us from head to foot in their careless progress towards their lunch dates in town during one of the many downpours that we enjoyed that day.

Those whose attention we managed to draw to their ignorance seemed to find it amusing. Perhaps on other occasions they indulge in 'happy slapping'.

I don't think any of them were wearing hoods.
