RHYS Evans admits he is inching ever closer to penning a new deal at the County Ground.

A slightly revised offer is expected to be lodged with his agent in the next couple of days, although it should be stressed that it is far from a done deal.

If the new terms meet with his approval then the 23-year-old goalkeeper looks likely to be the first 'yes' of the summer for manager Andy King.

Evans said: "I have some positive feedback from my agent about what the manager has said.

"It is not a done deal but there is a willingness on both sides it seems.

"As I understand it, there have been some amendments, although I have yet to see what is on the table.

"If it is done right then it is likely I will sign.

"I am proud to have spent the best part of two years as the No 1 keeper here and the more matches you play the more experience you obviously gain."

Evans also feels he has improved and what he will insist on before signing any new deal is the continued opportunity to work with his current goalkeeping coach, Fraser Digby.

He said: "Fraser is my yardstick if you like.

"In years to come, if you find yourself mentioned in the same breath as him then you know you'll have done okay."

The player also joked that he was anxious to resolve his future as quickly as possible in order to stem the flow of questions from friends and family.

Evans said: "Once it's sorted we can start talking about something else.

"Seriously, I am aware that time is dragging on and I don't want the situation to go on and on.

"All you can do is just try and be honest about the situation as you see it."

The former Chelsea custodian said he was not actively negotiating with any other club.
