NAME: Kay Kane

vAGE: 47

EMPLOYER: Oxford, Swindon and Gloucester Co-op

SO WHAT DO YOU ACTUALLY DO? I am the manager of the Imagine Co-operative Childcare Day Care nursery in Walcot, Swindon. We cater for children aged from three months up to school age.

WHAT DO YOU HATE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB AND WHY? There isn't anything I hate about my job, but I do find at times I can get buried in the paperwork! It's important but the biggest satisfaction is working directly with the children.

DO YOU THINK YOUR COLLEAGUES LIKE YOU? I hope so, we have a great team here, very much a family feel with everyone's opinions valued and included.

WHAT'S THE BEST BIT OF ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN? My mum once told me to do all you can to make life easier. I've always carried that piece of advice with me and as a result I try not to overcomplicate things and get quickly to the best outcome.

WHAT'S THE BEST BIT OF GOSSIP YOU HAVE EVER HEARD ABOUT YOURSELF? I can't say I have ever heard any gossip about myself but people often say I'm always happy and very positive, which is nice to hear and, I think, essential for working with children.

WHAT JOB DID YOU WANT TO DO WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG AND WHY? I wanted to be an air hostess as I thought it would be great to travel to different countries. I changed my mind once I saw how hard they worked! Here at the nursery we have the smart uniform though.

IF YOU COULD HAVE A DREAM JOB, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Doing the job I'm doing. I love working with children and their families. Being asked by parents to look after their children and help them develop is of course a huge compliment and a privilege.

HOBBIES: I have two chocolate brown Labradors so going for long country walks is one hobby, cooking is another.

IN JOB TERMS, WHO OR WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST INFLUENCE AND WHY? My mum. She has been a qualified teacher for many years and so has been a great source of practical advice and guidance.
