THEY say football is a game all about opinions and that has been proved true this week after Friday's 'Cryer' awards sparked a huge reaction from disgruntled fans.

Just a few hours after the Wiltshire Times and Chippenham News went to press, posts on the Trowbridge Town fans Internet forum were already slamming my choice of winners on the local football circuit.

Accusations of bias against Trowbridge Town and "knowing jack all about football" have been made against me in countless posts as fans voice their anger over losing out on the prestigious accolade.

Comments that I just go to watch Chippenham Town are untrue as I have probably been to see more Hellenic League and Screwfix League games than Southern League, as managers will confirm.

I have never doubted how well Trowbridge Town have done to finish runners up in their first season in the Hellenic first division but for me finishing runners up in a division two leagues higher, as Chippenham did, is a far better achievement.

They also won the Wiltshire Premier Shield against a Swindon Town side who fielded a number of youngsters on the verge of the first team, and while they did lose their heads at the finale, it was still a season to remember.

Suggestions that Bradford Town should have won team of the season are ludicrous as even their manager admits finishing second in the Wiltshire League and losing the cup final made it a disappointing season.

I also don't believe there was any other contender for manager of the season as Corsham's Colin Bush took his side on an unbeaten run as they finished runners up in the Western League top flight. They also won the Wiltshire Senior Cup.
