ENGLAND schoolboys' captain Yan Klukowski is mulling over "a chance of a lifetime" after being offered two four-year football scholarships in the United States of America.

The Chippenham schoolboy has attracted a host of interest from football league clubs with his performances for his country this season and is now on the verge of jetting overseas in a bid to further his chances of a career in the sport.

Central Connecticut University, in New England, and Fairfield University, in Connecticut, have both tabled offers to the Bath City midfielder and he has a week before having to make a decision.

He said: "A lot of the coaches from the American University came to watch the England schoolboy matches and from that these two universities got in touch.

"I was a bit surprised but it is always nice to be offered something and to know that you are wanted by someone.

"I have spoken to some English lads already on a scholarship over there and they say it is a fantastic experience. You train every day and get a degree at the end of it all.

"I will come out of it not in debt because it is a scholarship and all the accommodation and food will be paid for. It is a chance of a lifetime."

Klukowski's dreams of becoming a professional footballer have been boosted this season with a number of trials at league clubs, including Northampton Town and Reading.

Despite impressing he has received no firm offer from either although it is rumoured Yeovil Town are the latest club to show an interest in him.

The 18-year-old Sheldon School pupil, who played for Southampton as a youngster, is currently revising for next month's A-levels in PE, psychology and geography but knows a decision about his future will have to be made soon.

He said: "The Americans want a decision by the end of next week but any other decision will have to wait until my exams finish next month.

"The scholarship is definitely an option because I will come back when I am only in my early 20s and there would still then be chance for me to make it in the professional game.

"It is a big decision and so will obviously need some thinking about. Another option could be staying at home and hopefully getting more trials with league clubs."

Klukowski, from Hill Rise, Chippenham, has enjoyed a memorable season having captained England on several occasions and helping Wiltshire to a double.

His country and county commitments have led to him only playing a peripheral role in Bath City's Southern League campaign with rivals Chippenham Town keen on signing him this summer.

But, while he refused to rule out staying in the Southern League, it seems likely Klukowski will be either at a league club or plying his trade in the States next campaign.
