NURSE Leah Webb is to face trial by jury after denying handing in timesheets for work she didn't do.

The 28-year-old pleaded not guilty to false accounting before a judge at Swindon Crown Court.

The offences are said to have taken place in a six-month period from the start of January and the end of June 2003.

Webb is said to have submitted timesheets saying she worked on various wards at the Great Western Hospital for Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust when she did not do the shifts.

Webb, of Goddard Avenue, Old Town, pleaded not guilty to nine counts of false accounting.

The court was told that the trial is likely to last four days and the case was adjourned to a date to be fixed. Webb was released on unconditional bail.

Earlier this year a part-time nurse at GWH who fiddled time sheets to boost her pay escaped being sent to jail.

Natalie Harris falsely claimed she had worked extra shifts and pocketed almost £1,500 in extra pay from the Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust.

But after hearing how the 22-year-old, of Coronation Road, was now doing well as a hairdresser the judge decided he didn't have to impose a custodial sentence.
