Wilts Angling Open match at Rood Ashton on Thursday provided good sport with carp. Top spot went to Trowbridge's Paul Bond with a carp catch weighing 38lb 5oz taken alternating with pole fished sweetcorn and catmeat.

Holt's Pete Neate snatched second prize with another carp catch weighing 31lb 10oz taken alternating with pole fished pellets and catmeat. He was followed by Frome's Gary Dallimore, home for a months vacation from New Zealand where he now lives, with a carp catch weighing 25lb 0oz taken on borrowed tackle on pole fished pellets.Other placings: 4. Darren Fletcher, Melksham 2 lb 8oz; 5 Terry Gatty, Melksham 21lb 0oz; 6 Dave Baker, Trowbridge 19lb 14oz.

There was mixed sport in the Wilts Open match on Sunday at Witherington Farm.

Fred Eagles from Trowbridge took second prize with another carp catch weighing 57lb 14oz taken alternating with pole fished pellets and sweetcorn.

He was followed by Trowbridge's Paul Bond with a carp catch weighing 44lb 10oz taken on pole fished pellets.

Other placings: 4 Geoff Matthews, Trowbridge 32lb 0oz; 5 Dean Adams, Bradford 31lb 12oz; 6 Dave Baker, Trowbridge 14lb 8oz.

The first round of the Nigel Milkins Summer Series was fished at Viaduct Fishery where catches were somewhat down on their best.

Top honours went to star Mosella matchman Tony Rixon with a carp catch weighing 107lb 10oz taken on long pole fished pellets fished shallow for a comfortable win.

Runner up was Avon Angling matchman Mark Jefferies with another carp catch weighing 78lb 9oz taken on waggler fished pellets on a 14 hook.

The mid week Open match at Ivy House Fishery produced mixed sport.

In first place was Elgin's Pete Connor with a mixed catch of carp and silvers weighing 46lb 10oz taken on pole fished sweetcorn on a 14 hook for a clear win. Runner up was Simon Stacey from Devizes with another mixed bag of carp ands silvers weighing 24lb 10oz taken on pole fished pellets. He was followed by Chippenham's Elick Payne with another mixed bag weighing 21lb 12oz .

The Stafford Moor So Simple match produced good sport once again. Mosella's Clive Davis took top honours with an all carp catch weighing 139lb 15oz taken on pole fished pellets on a 14 hook. Sensas Thyers matchman Brian Slipper was second with another carp catch of 134lb 7oz taken on pole fished pellets. He was followed by Lance Tucker of Sensas Thyers with another carp catch weighing 95 lb 1 oz. Other placings: 4 Nick Ewers, Thatchers 94lb 7oz; 5 Steve Jackson, Carbotech Select 81lb 9oz; 6. Mark King, Stafford Moor 80lb 4oz.

Competitors in the Waterside match fished on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Pound Close enjoyed good sport on Sunday. First was Midsomer Norton's Matthew James with an all tench catch weighing 12lb 0oz taken on pole fished chopped worm on an 18 hook. Ray Ryder also from Midsomer Norton was second with a mixed catch of skimmers and roach weighing 8lb 5oz. Frome's Geoff Berry clinched third prize with another skimmer and roach catch weighing 8lb 4oz taken on pole fished double red maggot on an 18 hook. Other placings: 4 Tim Steel, Midsomer Norton 6lb 11oz; 5 Anthony Shepherd, Frome 6lb 10oz
