CARS built by Japanese car firm Honda have come top in a reliability league table.

The manufacturer was one of several Far East manufacturers which dominated a table revealing just how many times cars have had to be repaired in the last two years.

So reliable were Honda vehicles that there were just 9.9 per cent that needed repairs, closely followed by Mazda at 10.7 per cent and Toyotas at 12.9 per cent.

The comparative figures for Rover were 40.3 per cent, for Ford 36.4 per cent and for Vauxhall 35.9 per cent, while Midlands-based Land Rover came bottom of the 30-strong manufacturers' table with 45.4 per cent of its vehicles requiring repairs.

Honda's Accord and the Swindon-built Civic were the top individual models for least repairs, although the Rover 25 managed to make it into third place.
