CIRENCESTER hope to seal the signing of former Swindon goalkeeper Steve Book by close of play today.
Book played for Ciren in their 3-1 friendly win over Hungerford on Saturday, but manager Brian Hughes faces competition for his services from Conference South outfit Weston-super-Mare.
Hughes has offered terms to the 36-year-old and has given him until today to make a decision.
Another County Ground old boy was instrumental in Ciren's latest pre-season triumph.
Steve Cowe was brought down in the box two minutes into the second half and Shaun Wimble duly opened the scoring from the spot.
Cowe volleyed home the second from Nick Stanley's cross. Dave Tyler pulled one back but Paul Hunt headed home Ciren's third late on.
A Supermarine side, made up largely of triallists, suffered their first pre-season defeat of the season, losing 3-2 at home to Reading Town.
Elsewhere, Shrivenham won 3-0 against Devizes.
Supermarine will have a couple of spare weekends this season following the resignation of Thame from the Southern League.
