The first of three soccer fun weeks was held at Gerrard Buxton Sports ground in Wootton Bassett.

Fifty six boys and girls, aged five to 13, took part in the FA Soccer Stars Programme which involved tests in shooting, dribbling, turns, speed, heading, and running with the ball.

A majority of the youngsters achieved a five-star standard with many of the older age group attaining a six-star award.

Weather conditions were ideal for the coaching, games sessions, the various competitions and the tournament.

For each of the three age groups there were two awards the ACE award for Attitude Commitment and Effort, and the PEP award for Performance, Effort and Progress.

The winners were: A group: ACE Daniel Watts, PEP Charlotte Burke; B group: ACE Ben Watts, PEP Rueben Querzani-Southan;C group: ACE Euan Burke, PEP Lewis Ward.

Competition winners Football golf: Harry Ward and Ben Gerrish; Penalty competition: Josh Fail, Niall Alstowe and Thomas Bevan.

A special award was presented to Harry Ward to recognise his outstanding recovery from major operations to both of his legs and his quick return to take part in the first of the summer fun weeks.

Course director Chris Kirkland said: "His determination and unassuming nature has been an example for other youngsters to follow and he has been an inspiration to all of us."

Rob Stephens, Will Tearle, and Steve Yeardley, assisted by Gemma French, Phil Tearle, Craig Hunt and Ben Turner, undertook coaching, and the other course director was Ian Turner.
