ORGANISERS of an innovative inner city golf initiative are looking for people in Swindon to volunteer for the project.

Golf Roots has already introduced over 45,000 children to the game since its launch two years ago, and this year the project is expanding into Swindon.

Julia Hooker, Swindon co-ordinator for the initiative, said: "It is through the support of local volunteers that we are able to engage and encourage the next generation of golfers.

"We hope that Saturday will help encourage more residents to take up the challenge of helping develop future stars."

At the Mela in the Town Gardens last weekend more than 750 people were encouraged to pick up a golf club for the first time.

Ms Hooker said: "Golf has always been seen as a traditional, conservative and elitist game."
