I UNDERSTAND that on March 13, 2001, Bath University were happy to discuss a site on the North Star campus and said that the integrated transport strategy would be the key to the success of the project, a strategy that cannot be a part of the Coate site, due to the fact that there is only one small road feeding into Marlborough Road.

The North Star option has since been rejected by the Swindon Council on the grounds that this would mean that Swindon's cultural, retail and civic needs could not be met if this occurred. I do not see how placing a university on this site would clash with existing plans to develop our cultural needs. Our retail outlets are all alike. Do we need more?

I would also like to point out that some people are clouding the issue with discussions about the need for medical studies to take place by the GWH. Everyone involved in the debate agrees that the 100 students and tutors involved in medical studies should have a special site near the hospital. It is the introduction of accommodation for a further 1,000 other students and eventually tuition for 10,000 that is causing consternation.

This is in addition to a Business Park with a seven storey glass pyramid and flats and houses for an influx of at least 3,000 extra residents.

And where will they all for peace and quiet or find an area where fuel emissions are filtered by the many trees which give out oxygen?
