ANDY KING is not anticipating further new arrivals ahead of the trip to Barnsley after being rebuffed in an approach for Lee Holmes.

The manager spoke to Derby County counterpart Phil Brown about a loan deal for the winger (pictured) but the response was short and sweet.

Holmes, 18, impressed during three months at the County Ground last season, but such is his rising stock in the game that the Rams are loathe to let him out again.

The Swindon Advertiser revealed back in May King's intention to seek a second loan deal for Holmes.

However, it was only yesterday that the Town boss finally made the call.

It wasn't the answer he had been hoping for.

King said: "Phil Brown said 'no chance.'

"That's a disappointment as I feel we need a wide player."

Holmes has just returned from England duty in the UEFA European Under 19 Championship in Northern Ireland.

He helped his country reach the final and scored England's goal in a 3-1 defeat by France.

The call to Derby boss Brown was just one in a long line made by King.

He revealed he had also inquired after Nottingham Forest's Eugene Bopp, while calls to two Premiership clubs had not borne any fruit.

King has also missed out on Manchester United youngster Paul McShane, with the defender poised to join Brighton and Hove Albion on loan.

Still, the manager is philosophical about the situation with the big kick -off now just two days away.

He said: "You get one plus (the arrival of Patrick Collins from Sheffield Wednesday) but then there are knockbacks.

"I'm trying (in terms of new signings) but I'm set in my mind now that there won't be anyone else here, and I'm working with a view to Saturday.

"I'm feeling a little bit happier."
