GAZETTE & HERALD: POLICE are issuing a second appeal for witnesses to an unprovoked attack in a nightclub in Corsham.

More than two months after the attack, the victim still has blurred vision, is wary of strangers and fears going out alone.

The 21-year-old Corsham man, who does not want to be named, was knocked unconscious in Lilley's nightclub.

He and some friends went to the nightclub on Westwells Road, Hawthorn, where, only an hour later, CCTV images show the attacker storming up to his victim and punching him in the face.

PC Kane Fulbrook-Smith of Corsham police described the attack as "very vicious and malicious" and said it would not be tolerated.

"The man was completely still, doing nothing, when all of a sudden he's out, unconscious for a few seconds," said PC Fulbrook-Smith.

"It was one single punch that came from nowhere, totally unexpected, and laid him flat on his back."

The man, who was alone at the time of the attack, was referred to Bath's Royal United Hospital the next day where X-rays confirmed he had a fractured cheekbone and eye socket. He was booked in for surgery and later underwent an operation on his eye.

PC Fulbrook-Smith said: "He goes out but he tends to go with friends rather than alone. It's made him extremely wary about people."

He said the man couldn't remember being hit because he was taken by surprise before being knocked unconscious.

"Every effort has been made to identify the suspect and I can confirm that I am closing in on the person responsible," PC Fulbrook-Smith said.

The suspect is described as white, around 5ft 6in to 5ft 10in tall, between 18 to 25 years old and of slim to medium build.

The attack happened between 11.30pm and midnight on Friday 27 May.

PC Fulbrook Smith would like to hear from anyone who has information, small or otherwise on (01249) 712172 or anonymously on Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
