GAZETTE & HERALD: BROWN bins were the order of the day in Corsham as a new recycling scheme began last Wednesday.

The scheme, run by North Wiltshire District Council and Wiltshire Waste Partnership, is being trialled in selected areas including Corsham.

For £30 a year, or £1.15 per collection, residents can rent a brown 240 litre gardening waste wheelie bin that will be emptied every two weeks.

When the garden waste has been collected from North Wiltshire, it is taken to a composting facility at Compton Bassett and processed into Warrior compost, an organic, peat-free compost that can be purchased at household recycling centres.

Recycling garden waste not only helps reduce waste being dumped in landfill sites, it also produces rich compost that can be used in gardens, parks, football pitches and even golf courses to produce top quality results.

Every local authority in Britain has been set goals by the government, which aims to reduce the amount of household waste being buried in landfill sites.
