NEW College is offering courses over the summer which will allow licence holders to get a licence under new regulations.

The Licensing Act, which was introduced earlier this year, stipulates that all alcohol-serving premises need at least one personal licence holder as of November.

This personal licence allows the individual to authorise the sale or supply or alcohol and is valid for ten years.

Current licences can be exchanged for the new kind by Saturday but after that applications will have to be made from scratch.

New College, where Graham Taylor, is principal, is running the new BIIAB National Licence Holders Course, which is required for people getting a new licence.

Sandra Williams, professional programmes manager at New College, said: "I am expecting a huge demand in the next few weeks for the new BIIAB National Licence Holders course, as the deadline passes and the old qualifications aren't accepted any more by the council.

"We'd love to see everyone at New College but it would help us greatly if anyone who is eligible cashes in their old licence before the end of the week or gets their application in the post by Saturday as this will ease the demand for the new course."

The course will start on August 22 from 9.30am to 5pm at the Queens Drive Campus costing £155.
