YOUNGSTERS who want to find out more about dinosaurs have been invited to Swindon Museum and Art Gallery.

The museum, in Bath Road, is holding a special Discovering Dinosaurs event on Friday, August 12.

Dr Dinosaur will be showing how scientists can gather information from a dinosaur dig by uncovering bones, footprints, skin impressions, eggs and dinosaur droppings to build up a picture of how the creatures lived millions of years ago.

Youngsters will be able to handle real dinosaur bones and reconstruct 'Fred-o-saurus'.

There are two sessions for children aged between six to 12, running from 11.30am to 12.30pm and from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. They cost £2.50 each and booking, which is essential, can be done on 01793 466556.

There is also a summer holiday trail for children, Fossil Frenzy, in which children can discover cartoon fossils and dinosaurs hidden around the museum. It costs £1 for each child and includes small prize. The drop-in activity runs until 31 August.

A display of fossils from the Jurassic and Ice Age periods, including ammonites and mammoth bones, is on show at the Fabulous Fossils exhibition. Many of the finds come from sites near Swindon.
