WITH reference to the letter of the week (Gazette, July 28) I thought Marlborough was a market town. How delighted I was to walk down the High Street and find the French market.

The stalls were beautifully presented and many of the items are not usually available in Marlborough at the prices offered. There were also wonderful aromas from the fresh pastries to the paella.

The High Street was buzzing with people and everyone I have spoken to made purchases and enjoyed the atmosphere. I doubt it is detrimental to our local businesses to have the High Street full of people instead of the cars that would have generated a relatively small amount of revenue. I even heard people speaking French with some of the charming stall keepers.

Let's make this a regular feature in our market town and certainly have others in time for Christmas shopping. My congratulations to the Marlborough Area Development Trust for making these events happen.
