NEW ideas to solve the ward imbalance in Westbury are to be put forward to the town council.

The two main proposals, which were suggested at a district council seminar on the boundary commission, were discussed at Westbury town council's general purposes committee meeting on Monday.

The aim is to solve the imbalance between the Ham ward, which represents 39 per cent more of the electorate than the average and Laverton ward which falls 24 per cent below the average.

One suggestion is to increase the number of councillors in the Ham ward from two to three, which would mean five district councillors in Westbury.

The other is to provide single councillor wards in the area, which could increase the amount of district councillors in the town to four or five.

The town council is now due to discuss the proposals at the next full meeting.
