A NOISY alcoholic who was thrown out of a Wiltshire train station hurled abuse at local police officers for failing to catch the London bombers.

Robert McGladdery, 47, of Graham Street, Newbury, admitted being drunk and disorderly when he appeared before magistrates at Chippenham on Friday.

The court heard he swore at officers after he was ejected from Westbury station last Thursday.

Sue Cavender, prosecuting, said: "Police were alerted by station staff when Mr McGladdery began to abuse other passengers on the platform.

"When they arrived they found him perched on a platform bench. He was intoxicated, ticket-less and obviously had no intention of travelling."

Mrs Cavender told the court that McGladdery slowly stumbled to his feet after being asked to leave by police.

She said: "He agreed to leave but when he got outside the station he turned round and started shouting at the officers. He said, 'you wanna catch those ******* bombers, not me.'"

Andrew Eddy, defending, told the court McGladdery had a significant alcohol dependency and had attended a rehabilitation clinic two years ago, but had received no further treatment since then.

Mr Eddy said: "Mr McGladdery is aware of the problem he has got. He accepts his behaviour was disorderly and would like to apologise to the court for what happened."

McGladdery was fined £50 by magistrates.
