Ugo and Kirsten Jonathan who took over The Railway Inn, Westbury two weeks ago, are pictured with their son Henderson (30754)A COUPLE are hoping to preserve the friendly atmosphere of the Railway Inn, Westbury, after taking over as the new owners.

Ugo Jonathan, 30, and his wife Kirsten, 34, took over at the pub, which is in Station Road, two weeks ago and so far everything has been going well.

Mrs Jonathan said: "I feel like we've been here forever already. Everyone has been so welcoming."

They are looking forward to making their mark in the pub, a former mill and brewery, which is 150 years old, but are keen to maintain the relaxed and fun atmosphere. The couple want to make sure they keep up the traditional pub activities like skittles, darts and pool and will be offering a family friendly setting with a children's menu and playground. There is also a newly extended menu for adults.

Mr Jonathan said: "We're not doing five-star food, but things people enjoy. I've added things like chicken wings and steak and mushroom pies because that's what everyone seems to like. We've also got a carvery on a Sunday with all fresh foods, nothing frozen or reheated."

They will also be making some visual changes to the pub.

Mr Jonathan is planning to revamp the outside of the building with flowers and hanging baskets and will be putting hops around the bar.

Mr Jonathan said he would be putting the pub's 1pm licence to good use with karaoke and discos on Friday and Saturdays. He is also hoping to introduce live music and open mic nights.

The couple have a wealth of experience behind them in hospitality and management. Mr Jonathan has travelled all over the world working in hotels and managing restaurants and supermarkets. His wife was previously the deputy general manager at the Royal Crescent Hotel, Bath.

Mr and Mrs Jonathan married four years ago after meeting in Dubai and have moved to Westbury with their two-year-old son Henderson. They said the best part of the job was meeting the people in Westbury and getting to know everyone.

A function room in the pub is available for parties. For more information contact (01373) 826318.
