INITIAL plans to revamp Trowbridge Town Hall have been well received by the public. Early proposals for uses of the building went on display at the West Wilts Show at the weekend.

Town development manager Daryl Saville-Brown said: "People want to see facilities for the town and they don't want to see the building go to waste."

Trowbridge Town Council gave a list of possible uses to the hall to an architect who was asked to look into the feasibility of including each within the building in terms of cost, practicalities and space.

The council hopes the building can be used for a mixture of facilities including a tourist information centre, council offices, register office, restaurant and shops.

It is also proposed that, in the long term, the hall could include a large function room that would be used to host events currently held in the Civic Hall. The town council plans to carry out further consultation and detailed cost feasibility studies.

The public will be able to attend a town forum on September 27, to listen to a presentation on the proposals.
