Chippenham cinema to remain open during refit

The Reel Cinema in Chippenham is to stay open during its upcoming re-fit and hopes to minimise disruption to customers by doing most of the building work during the day.

The cinema on Marshfield Road is to be transformed into a five screen multiplex but the work necessary to modernise the venue will take several months to complete.

It was thought the cinema would have to close in February for the revamp.

Manager Jonty Richards said: “We hope not to affect the customer.

“We can’t really afford to close for the re-fit but the disruption is going to be minimal.”

Mr Richards was keen to emphasise the work would happen during the day and would be worth it to watch digital films at the end of the refurbishment process.

Mr Richards said: “It is a case of doing it around the customer.

“Work will be during the day and we open at night.”

The cinema is usually only open in the evenings in term time.

Mr Richards added: “We think it will take about three months, but it won’t be until March.”
