More than 600 supporters gathered at the Chippenham Rugby Club on Friday night to raise money for sixth form pupil Jay Ryles-Jenkins who remains in a stable condition in hospital after a tragic rugby accident earlier this year.

Scores of people got together to watch the special match between Hardenhuish and Sheldon and raised close to £3,000 for the Jay Ryles-Jenkins Fund, which aims to provide cash for any post-hospital equipment Jay might need.

Event organiser Fiona Jamieson said the evening was a huge success.

She said: "Everyone had such a good night and people were so generous.

"I went round with a bucket and people were just throwing money in - everyone was so supportive.

"Although people were there to watch the rugby everyone was talking about Jay.

"There is so such support for him between both schools.

"Pupils from Hardenhuish and Sheldon sixth forms helped organise the game together and its brought everyone a lot closer.

"He has touched many people's lives and we were happy to help."

Jay's teamates from Sheldon managed to secure to a victory and win the game.
