Campaigners trying to restore a former waterway through Wiltshire have been given nearly £900 for canal conservation and restoration near Chippenham.
The money was raised from the Wilts and Berks Canal Trust annual sponsored walk in April, when more than 100 people followed the line of the old waterway from Chippenham to Lacock and back.
Organiser Peter Williams presented the cheque to the trust’s Melksham, Chippenham and Calne branch.
He said: “We were delighted to raise so much from a single event. More and more of the canal is being revealed every year and people are beginning to see what a wonderful asset it would be for the community – in terms of tourism, employment and conservation.
“We hope this money will help to continue their campaign to bring the canal back to life.”
