Leather clad bikers will descend on Wootton Bassett High Street at the weekend for a Meet the British Legion Riders Branch event.

More than 40 bikes will be parked beside the town hall for the day for the townspeople to find out more about the Riders.

The town mayor, councillor Steve Bucknell invited the Riders to come along to raise awareness of the branch in recognition of their constant support at the repatriations.

The event is being organised by the Riders, with the support of Wootton Bassett Town Council and Chamber of Commerce as part of the Brilliant Bassett campaign.

Kevin Tompkins, South West Area representative for the Riders branch said: “We are often asked by people attending the repatriations who the bikes belong to and where we are from.

“This is an opportunity for us to build on our good relationship with Wootton Bassett and for local people to find out more about who we are and what we are all about.

“Since announcing this event, the uptake has been tremendous. Riders have been postponing appointments to be able to come along.”
