Mid Wilts Under 9 Division 4

Devizes lost their first game of this season at a cold and windy Nurstead road, as Marlborough gained revenge for there early season loss to the hosts.

The game began with Marlborough having the strong wind at there backs and forcing Devizes onto the back foot but some resolute defending forced them to rely on long range attempts. Devizes slowly got to grips with the conditions and both sides plaid some good football with both defences on top.

Mid way through the half Devizes took the lead, following good work down the wing by Ciaran Webster who's cross was controlled instantly by Callum Barnes who skipped round the keeper and rolled the ball into an empty net.

Despite some good play by both sides chances were at a premium and when they did come along both keepers proved impossible to beat.

With the lead and the wind at there backs Devizes started the second half confident that they could add to the scoreline and that looked on as they peppered the Marlborough goal with some good long range shots, but the Marlborough defence held firm and after 5 mins a quick break saw them equalise.

Both sides continued to play lovely passing football looking to score the next goal which finally went to Marlborough when another quick break away saw the forward race onto the through ball and casually finish.

Devizes pushed forward looking for the equaliser, including putting an extra forward on for a defender, which ment Marlborough had space to attack but as time ran out there were no more goals.

Great credit should go to both sides for the quality of football on show despite the bad weather conditions.
