Swindon Wildcats will be able to field Jozef Kohut against Guildford this weekend after the long-running dispute over his registration was settled.

The club have now received clearance from the Polish organization and Kohut goes straight into the team for Saturday.

Kohut is delighted that he can finally get on the ice for the Cats and he is itching to get started for his new club.

"It's been a frustrating couple of weeks for me as all I have wanted to do is play for my new club the Swindon Wildcats," he said.

"I have been helping out in my spare time with some of the community programmes and it really is very exciting.

"I am really looking forward to playing for the club and I am really excited about my future here. "

Kohut 33, joins from Polish club Zaglebie Sosnowiec where so far this season he has had 13 goals and 10 assists in his 26 games with the club.

Kohut began his career in his native Slovakia with the Trenčín senior team in the Extraliga in 1993 and enjoyed a number of years in Extraliga and Liga, before coming over to the UK to be instrumental in the multi-championship winning Guildford Flames.

Over a five year spell with the Flames, Kohut became Guildford's most prolific goal scorer with over a goal a game and he is in the top ten all-time scorers for the Surrey outfit.

Wildcats coach Ryan Aldridge spoke of his delight that Kohut can now play.

He said: "I am delighted that Jozef can now play. It has been a tough couple of weeks but now it is all sorted and Jozef will add experience and professionalism to the team and that is what our young squad needs.

"He is a go to guy and will help us in all areas and will lead the power play.

"Jozef is a great signing for the club and will be here for the next 2 seasons and will be a key part in the 09/10 Wildcats squad."

Measuring up at 186cm and 89kg, Kohut is a much admired two-way forward that should prove an exciting acquisition for the Wildcats and help push the team forward and re-capture the form they showed at the tail end of 2008.

Club general manager Steve Nell is pleased that situation has now been resolved and the Wildcats fans will get to see the clubs new signing against the Guilford Flames.

"The clearance has come though today so it is great news but about time," he said.

"We done everything we could for Kohut to be eligible to play against Bracknell last weekend but in the end the situation was out of our hands.

"Jozef can now play against the Flames on Saturday which is another crucial game for us. We are very pleased the situation has now been resolved and look forward to everyone seeing just what a quality player he is.

"Jozef has been helping out with some of the 'Wildcats in the Community' schemes in his spare time which is a credit to him as this is something that he didn't need to do.

"Jozef has also lost out on a considerable amount of money by doing this. I believe that this is an example of the kind of person he is and he will be a great asset to this club both on and off the ice over the next two seasons."
