Swindon Wildcats have responded immediately to shipping 14 goals in a single weekend by announcing the signing of Jozef Kohut.

The 33-year-old forward joins from Zagłębie Sosnowiec in Poland where he has scored 13 goals and had 10 assists in 26 games for the fourth placed team who compete in Poland's top Ice Hockey league.

He began his career in his native Slovakia with the Trenčín senior team in the Extraliga in 1993 and enjoyed a number of years in Extraliga and Liga, before coming over to the UK to be instrumental in the multi-championship winning Guildford Flames.

Over a five year spell with the Flames, Kohut became Guildford's most prolific goal scorer with over a goal a game and he is in the top ten all-time scorers for the Surrey outfit.

Wildcats coach Ryan Aldridge spoke of his delight at the Cats latest acquisition.

"I am delighted to get Jozef to Swindon," he said.

"He will add experience and professionalism to the team and that is what our young squad needs.

"He is a go to guy and will help us in all areas and will lead the power play.

"Jozef is a great signing for the club and will be here for the next 2 seasons and will be a key part in the 09/10 Wildcats squad."

Measuring up at 186cm and 89kg, Kohut is a much admired two-way forward that should prove an exciting acquisition for the Wildcats and help push the team forward and re-capture the form they showed at the tail end of 2008.
