According to its own website, the main objective of the WPA is to ensure ...

... that the community in Wiltshire, including the Borough of Swindon, receive an efficient and effective policing service.

Last week's report showed that the Wiltshire Police are not delivering the service we're entitled to expect. But what is the Police Authority doing about is? As far as I can see, absolutely nothing at all. These people are responsible for ensuring that services are delivered - they seem to be like a board of trustees. And they're failing in their duties.

A quick calculation based on the published allowances shows that this part alone costs us £162,776 a year. And that's without the support staff who must be involved?. I'm would guess that the WPA must cost the Wiltshire Council Tax payers about a quarter of a million pounds a year.

As you would expect, the authority is dominated by the Conservatives but my lot are on there too, with a Labour member for good measure. It seems to me like they are not doing their job properly. I call upon the members of the Wiltshire Police Authority to do the decent thing.
