Emergency repairs are continuing on a burst water main that left large parts of a Wiltshire town without water.

Many residents in the SN15 area of Chippenham complained of low water pressure or no access to water during the morning of Wednesday, May 1.

Shortly after 9am Wessex Water announced the issues were due to a burst water main and that engineers were working at the scene to resolve the issue.

While these emergency repairs are still ongoing at the time of writing, water should now have been restored to affected customers.

Water was moved from other parts of the Wessex Water region to minimise disruption.

Throughout the morning dozens of residents took to social media to say they were affected by issues accessing their water supply.

A Wessex Water spokesperson said: “We are continuing to carry out emergency repairs to a burst water main affecting part of the SN15 area of Chippenham.

“Water has now been restored to those customers who were affected.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

In February a burst water main at Chippenham Golf Club caused “carnage” in the town, with many people left without water for days.

During this incident, a main also burst in the Allington area and residents of both SN15 and SN14 experienced severe disruption to their water supply.
