An independent town cinema offering a unique movie experience has been named as a finalist for  a major award.

The Parade Cinema in Marlborough has been voted for by customers in the Best Arts, Culture and Theatre category of the annual Muddy Stiletto's awards.

It will now battle against some other pretty big venues, including Swindon's Wyvern Theatre, for the winning title.

The cinema, which is located on The Parade in Marlborough, is in a listed former chapel building, first built in 1817 by non-conformists.

The cinema and café were developed from 2020 to 2021 and the site now houses a 104-seat cinema laid out in stalls and balconies to provide a theatre-like experience, as well as a fully licensed bar, cafe and heated courtyard.

"We are very excited to be a finalist in Muddy Stiletto’s Awards. We are encouraging all our brilliant customers, friends and family to vote for us and we really hope to be recognised for the amazing arts and culture venue that we are," said a spokesperson for The Parade Cinema.

"Muddy Stilettos is a brilliant platform which supports and promotes local businesses and community groups as well as sharing so much information and ideas of what to do in Wiltshire.

"We are in the heart of Marlborough and have been open for two and a half years - offering a wide selection of films including blockbusters, arthouse, foreign language and family favourites," they added.

"Our Kids’ Club on a Saturday morning is very popular with our younger customers as well as our regular audiences for the National Theatre Live, Royal Opera and Ballet shows.

"We truly believe we have something for everyone."

It's no surprise that this charming small cinema has been nominated, as The Parade Cinema has captured the hearts and minds of the Marlborough community over the years.

“I think it has brought such an amazing facility to Marlborough, it has really enhanced what we’ve got to offer people and I’m really pleased it is proving successful," said town councillor Caroline Thomas, who described the cinema as a 'valuable asset' for the area.

She also commended the fact that Marlborough has seen an increasing number of well-organised community activities and events since the cinema opened.

The Parade Cinema is open seven days a week along with a fantastic cafe, bar and covered heated courtyard hidden away from Marlborough's busy High Street.

Staff have said they would "love to top the bill" in the Arts, Culture and Theatre category, and voting closes on Friday, April 19.
