Sainsbury’s has provided an update over a month after an investigation was launched into allegedly “contaminated” fuel at a Wiltshire petrol station.

In early February, the supermarket told this paper they were investigating after multiple motorists reported issues with their cars after filling up at the Bath Road petrol station in Chippenham.

A spate of drivers said their cars broke down shortly after they bought unleaded petrol from the filling station on February 7.

Now, over a month on from the incident, Sainsbury’s say they are yet to complete their investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson for the retailer said that unleaded petrol will remain unavailable while these enquiries continue, although super unleaded petrol is on sale for the price of unleaded during this time.

A sign in place at the petrol station on Saturday, March 9, suggested that unleaded would soon be available.

It read: “Sorry, we have no unleaded at the moment and are awaiting our next delivery.”

One of those affected by the incident was Matt Jones, 21, who broke down on a roundabout in Corsham just minutes after purchasing petrol from the station.

His mum Sylwia claims she was informed by customer services that there had been several reports of “contaminated fuel” causing issues for drivers.
