A school in Wiltshire has officially been named as one of the top 100 private schools in the country.

Marlborough College, which boasts an impressive list of alumni, has been known as a prestigious school for many years, but this has finally been recognised by the Spear’s Schools Index 2024.

The Spear’s Schools Index was first put together four years ago as a resource for international families relocating to major international cities to gain insight into the world’s leading schools.

Since then, it has gained international recognition and has become a definitive index of the world’s leading private schools.

This year, Marlborough College has made the cut and been awarded ‘Top Flight’ in the UK senior schools category.

The £15,665 per term school holds an impressive alumni list including the Princess of Wales, artist William Morris, and former MP David Cameron's wife Samantha among others.

Other schools near Wiltshire which have been named in this category include Cheltenham Ladies’ College, Radley College and EF Academy Oxford.

Schools included in the index are selected by Spear's Research Unit which collects data and information about the schools which is then supplemented by intelligence from a panel of 'expert educationalists'.

“This year’s edition is more detailed than ever," said Spear’s editor-in-chief Edwin Smith.

“Our online profiles of the schools include data and information concerning not just academic performance and fees, but also information about each school’s distinctive approach and character.”
