The main A-road through a Wiltshire town will shut while “urgent” pothole repairs are carried out.

The A361 London Road will be closed in Devizes from 7pm until 11pm on Monday, January 29, while the pothole correction works are carried out by Wiltshire Council.

This closure will be in place between Folly Road and Brickley Lane.

A council closure notice said: “The following length of road shall be closed to all traffic in the interests of public safety to enable Wiltshire Council to carry out urgent pothole correction works and other associated works.”

London Road has been labelled a “problem area” for potholes multiple times over the last few years and last year Cllr Jonathan Hunter pushed for repairs to the route.

The pothole “cluster” that the council’s teams will be deployed to fix is located at the junction with Roundway Park.

Residents have called for similar works to be carried out on the same route near The Crammer and St James’s Church where potholes are reportedly getting “deeper and bigger by the day.”

Speaking on Facebook, Cllr Iain Wallis told locals that he had contacted the council’s street works team for details on plans to tackle potholes by The Crammer, as he felt these repairs were “urgent".
