A single mum has slammed a housing association after her son's bedroom ceiling partially collapsed - after months of trying to get leaks in the roof repaired.

Three years ago, Barbara Czekanska bought a top-floor flat in a block on Lime Kiln in Royal Wootton Bassett that is managed by GreenSquare Accord.

In January 2023, a leak stain appeared on her kitchen ceiling and she reported it as a fault, only to wait six months before it could be fixed.

Earlier this month, the 46-year-old noticed that another, even larger stain had appeared on the same spot. A few days later, her son awoke with a fright when the ceiling near his bedroom window suddenly collapsed.

Barbara fears that the previous repair work was unsuccessful and now wants a more long-lasting fix to be carried out urgently.

She said: “It was a huge fault and it looks like they just did a quick patch-up job rather than actually repair anything. They had scaffolding over the building for three months but didn’t start work until June.

“Now the leak is even bigger and seems to have spread, so I think the whole roof needs to be properly assessed, it’s falling apart.

“There’s a lot of damp in the kitchen and mould near the windows because they don’t fully close and let drafts in, so it’s hard to keep the flat warm.

“The part of the ceiling that collapsed in my son’s room is always wet, paint is peeling off the walls nearby, and there are huge cracks on the rest of it. I don’t want him to live in these conditions.

“I feel hopeless. I hardly slept during the recent storm because I was worried about what might happen.”

A spokesperson for GreenSquareAccord said: “We are sorry to hear that Ms Czekanska is experiencing difficulties in her home.

“We completed a repair on her roof on Friday, June 16, 2023 which addressed the leak around her chimney.

“On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, Ms Czekanska informed us about a leak in her kitchen ceiling.

“We have investigated the issue and arranged for scaffolding to be erected at her home on Friday.

“The repair works will commence on Saturday, January 27.

“The health and wellbeing of our customers is our top priority, and we are committed to working with Ms Czekanska to address all the issues in her home.”
