A minute's silence has been held in honour of Councillor Tony Trotman in the council chamber at Trowbridge County Hall.

Cllr Trotman served Calne Town Council for over 20 years and was mayor on four occasions.

He died suddenly on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 76 years old.

He had been diagnosed with pneumonia two days prior at hospital but had later been released.

Councillor Howard Greenman, who was chairing the Strategic Planning Committee meeting on Wednesday, January 10, paid tribute to the former mayor.

He said: “We shared an interesting and unusual dynamic in that I was deputy to his chair of the Northern Area Planning Committee, and he was deputy to my chair of this committee, so of course, we worked very closely together.”

He concluded: “His expertise, his brilliance and his knowledge are a sad loss and will be to all of us.”

Councillors then stood and held a minute of silence in his honour.

Cllr Trotman had represented Calne Chilvester and Abberd for Wiltshire Council since 2009.

After his death, the leader of Wiltshire Council, Richard Clewer, described him as “an effective member and passionate advocate for the residents of Calne” and said that his dedication was “a great example to us all.”
