Commuters have been warned that a busy road will be closing next month.

Various work will be carried out on Station Road in Royal Wootton Bassett, including footway resurfacing, kerb replacement, ironwork adjustments and other works.

The road will be closed from its junction with Glebe Road and Tanners Close to its junction with Nore Marsh Road from February 26 until March 4.

Throughout this period, all motorists will be diverted via New Road and the High Street, which will put increased pressure on these already busy roads and likely cause traffic delays throughout the town.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council has said: “It is anticipated that the works will take the stated duration to complete depending on weather conditions.

“Access will be maintained for residents and businesses where possible, although delays are likely due to the nature of the works.

“The order will have a maximum duration of 18 months.”

Motorists have been warned to allow extra time for possible delays, and those trying to access the Wootton Bassett Memorial Hall, Bowls Club, and Old Court Community Preschool could be particularly affected.

This is not the first time that Station Road has closed in recent months, as a road closure was also put in place on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.

While the 2023 closure took place over just one day, resurfacing taking place in February 2024 is expected to last for a week.
