Ouzbeck, a former racehorse, was a regular visitor to Wiltshire care homes and also contributed to educational programmes across the county.

Sadly, Ouzbeck, a former racehorse who worked with Greatwood in Marlborough to help others, has died on 14 August, aged 21.

He is being remembered as an ambassador for Marlborough who worked with children and elderly, brightening the lives of so many.

A fundraising campaign has now been launched in the horse’s memory, and the money raised will go towards the purchase of a horse lorry for Greatwood in Marlborough.

Greatwood is a charity which cares for and rehomes racehorses to be able to provide emotional and educational support for members of the community.

They particularly work with disadvantaged young adults and those with special educational needs to help with emotional wellbeing, mindfulness and inclusion.

“Supported by Retraining of Racehorses, Ouzbeck attended Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee celebrations in Marlborough and was also a regular visitor to care homes in Wiltshire.

“Throughout his ten years at Greatwood, Ouzbeck was also a valuable contributor to all the educational programmes and has helped young people to realise their potential.

“His loss will be felt by young and old alike,” said a representative of Greatwood in Marlborough.

Currently, Greatwood does not own a horse lorry, despite housing multiple horses looking for a new home.

The fundraising target of £45,000 is already becoming closer to being a reality after The Racing Foundation has given a generous grant of £20,000 in Ouzbeck’s memory.

One member of the public donating on the charity’s JustGiving page said that Ouzbeck was “a horse that brought so much joy to so many.”

During his racing days before coming to Greatwood, Ouzbeck was owned by Axom and trained by Emma Lavelle Racing LTD.

He walked away with 38 starts, 10 wins and five places.

"I’m so sad to hear of his passing but what a wonderful horse he was," said Emma Lavelle Racing.

"He gave so much pleasure to so many people - he epitomised a life well lived," said the former trainers.

“Everyone remembers Ouzbeck. Through our partnership with Newbury Racecourse, he attended numerous race meetings and was always impeccably behaved and admired by all,” Greatwood added.
