GLADIATOR Tempest joined local Brownies to break a world record for the biggest sleepover on Saturday.

Tempest, otherwise known as Lucy Boggis, 19, from Lower Stanton St Quinton, near Chippenham, was a brownie herself as a youngster and was adjudicating for the girls record attempt, which was organised by charity Save the Children.

She said: "This is the first time I've been involved in a world record attempt and I think it's awesome that the girls were being active and taking part.

"It was really good fun and all the girls were pleased to see me, which was great.

"I wore my gladiator's outfit and sang some songs with the girls and we talked about gladiators. I used to be a brownie myself so I wanted to show my support"

The previous world record was recorded two years ago when 33,093 children took part in a simultaneous sleepover in 2006.

advertisement Save the Children have confirmed that this year's attempt has broken that record, but the total figure has not yet been announced.

Meanwhile, Bratton Brownies want to set up a guides group in the village but need guide leaders. If you would like to help out please call Janet Mallard on (01373) 304070.
