GLEAMING examples of grand old ladies of steam have arrived for the Castle Combe Rally showing restored machines of yester year.

The annual Castle Combe Steam Rally now in its 36th year is the largest event of its type in Wiltshire and over the years has raised thousands of pounds for charities.

Chairman Dennis Marsh is delighted how the steam rally has grown over the years.

He said: “Last year was the biggest Steam Rally ever held at Castle Combe and this year could well be even bigger.

“We have a large steam section and even bigger vintage and veteran car section. We have sections of old military machines, commercial vehicles from years ago and a huge section of Vintage and Classic Tractors among the vast number of exhibits.

“It’s the show where visitors can take a nostalgic step back in time and recognise exhibits they enjoyed  in their youth, vehicles they recognise from years ago and the  younger visitors can take a close look of gleaming examples  of yesteryear.”

The rally is being held from 10am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday, May 20 and 21 at the Castle Combe Race Circuit and is likely to attract hundreds of visitors.

There will be exhibits and attractions for every taste be it a falconry display, model aircraft displays and dozens of trade stalls to browse.

Mr Marsh added: “We thank the support from all who visit the show and I am pleased to say we have raised thousands for the Jessie May Trust Children’s Hospice at Home,  our chosen charity for the last six years.”

Admission is £10 for adults per day, senior citizens £8 per day and free of charge for children under 14.
