Fire crews rescued a woman from her car after a two vehicle crash on the A4 at Derry Hill.

All three emergency services rushed to the scene at around 7pm on Wednesday, December 21.

Police confirmed one woman was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon with head injuries, but they are not thought to be life threatening.

A spokesperson said: “We attended a two vehicle collision which occurred shortly after 7pm in Derry Hill.

“A female driving one of the cars sustained head injuries and was taken to the Great Western Hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.”

Two fire crews arrived shortly after and rescued one woman from her car with hydraulic cutting equipment.

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “Firefighters from Chippenham and Calne were called to a two vehicle road traffic collision on the A4 at Derry Hill at 7.23pm.

“Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to release one female casualty from a car. They also supported the ambulance service with casualty care.

“The stop message was received at 8.07pm and fire crews returned to their stations by 8.39pm.”

The road was partially blocked following the incident causing heavy traffic both ways along the A4 between the A432 and Studley Lane, but the road is now open as normal.
